Miscellaneous register development team

Miscellaneous chairperson, Seiphetho Sefhako told Mmegi Sport the reason they registered Miscellaneous Academy is to have a feeder team.

He said his team is unable to buy ready-made players due to financial constraints.

“We already have young boys in the senior team and we hope that next season they will be mature enough to fit in the first 11,” he said.

Sefhako said the purpose of the academy is to hone their skills and not necessarily win the Division One league. Winning the league title will be a bonus to the young team, he said. However, he said  they expect the boys not to relax in the field because they should learn and at the same time win matches.

“Even though we won’t put the boys under any pressure to win the league, we don’t want them to relax when they face other teams.

We expect them to win matches. That’s how they will grow. Those who mature will graduate to the senior team,” Sefhako said.

He said the experience would help the young players to overcome stage fright when they get to the Premiership.

Sefhako said since they have secured a sponsorship deal with Botswana Life and Marvin Sports, they intend to negotiate with the two so that they extend assistance to the development team. He admitted Miscellaneous is struggling financially so it would be hard to sustain the academy.

“We are not going to commit ourselves by putting the boys in camp before matches. They will report for matches straight from their respective homes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sefhako said if other teams are interested in their development side’s players, Miscellaneous will not stand in the way as long as the right price comes. He said teams have to pay for the cost of developing the players. Furthermore, he said they aim to make Miscellaneous Academy autonomous, as its own management would run it.
