Despite going down 1-0, Nico as the home team, smiled all the way to the bank in their first home game of the season.

Nico’s first game of the season was away to new comers, Green Lovers where they lost 3-2.

The club spokesperson, Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng confirmed they made around P118, 000 after attracting close to 4, 000 people.

The match, which was originally scheduled to start at 3.30pm was moved to 4pm because of large number of people outside the stadium before kick off.

“I must appreciate that Township Rollers is a big team, wherever they play they  attract a large crowd. Remember this was Nico United’s first home game and Township Rollers’ first game in the north.

“So, we expected bigger numbers but not to that extent. These factors might have contributed,” he said. He said it was a record breaking figure, which was more than they made from the corresponding fixture against Rollers last season.

“We were ready for the situation. All emergency personnel were briefed and I thank them for their assistance.

Our only challenge was receiving tickets late from the Premier League. We only had Friday and Saturday morning to sell the tickets,” he added.

He said they need to work on their marketing strategies where supporters will get value for their money. He said they are now bringing entertainment to the stadium and will vary it to accommodate all age groups and families.

“But we do not encourage or tolerate alcohol at our games. We are also bringing activities before games, where supporters can purchase our merchandise and tickets at the mall,” he said.

Their next game is against BDF XI this coming Sunday at the Molepolole Sports Complex. Meanwhile, Nico are expected to announce a new technical sponsor in the coming weeks with Umbro reportedly replacing All Kasi.
