Jwaneng continues Debswana games dominance

Gaborone (Debswana Corporate Centre-DCC) came third with no points and they have a mountain to match their counterparts from Jwaneng and Orapa. In 2014, Orapa, Jwaneng, Gaborone garnered 10, 14 and one point respectively.

Sport codes that took part in the games were; badminton, basketball, chess, cycling, football, golf, softball, squash, swimming, athletics, aerobics, darts, lawn tennis, netball, pool, rugby, snooker, table tennis, volleyball and weight lifting. The Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (ODLM) general manager, Alan Breen said the games mark an important day in the company’s annual calendar. Breen said the games promote employee interaction and wellness, encourage long lasting employee relationships among Debswana employees, families and strategic business partners through participation in physical and mental exercises.

“This is part of Debswana’s commitment towards sensitising our employees on issues of health through sport activities. “Through this initiative, the company also seeks to encourage employees to keep themselves fit at all times. 

“This, we believe will propel us to greater heights and in realising our global human resources competitive edge of being an employer of choice and a productive workforce,” said Breen. The GM said the games expose players to leadership aspects of success, adding that they build a competitive spirit in players.

 “Playing sports teaches one to accept both successes and failure in a positive light.  “Playing sport is beneficial for the development of socials skills in a person. Sport teaches to interact with others and fosters collective thinking and develops planning skills.  “It also builds confidence and nourishes and strengthens the body and soul, instills self-discipline, team work and inculcates a drive to excel. It is vital aspect of our work and life balance.”
