Nasha, who is well-known for pulling jokes at different occasions, is the patron of the first ever all-female cast comedy show.

The show featured comediennes Nigma, Refilwe, Rekunnde and Lira.

When giving her speech Nasha said the event is a great platform for comediennes to showcase their comedic talent.

“Female comedians have always been viewed as curtain raisers for male comedians, but this time around women have their own show,” Nasha said.

She encouraged the comediennes to take their craft seriously and make a career out of it, despite the fact that comedy is an industry still in its infancy in Botswana.

She encouraged the comediennes to penetrate the international markets and compete with other comediennes outside Botswana.

“I was glad to hear that our local comediennes will be crossing the border to South Africa where they will also be performing,” she said.

Nasha also urged the general public to give female comedians their full support and help them grow in the industry.

During the comedy show Nasha, who is also an author, seemed to be enjoying each and every moment with some of the comediennes such as Lira making her the subject of their act.

She did not seem bothered as she laughed.

Songstress Helen Dikobe invited Nasha on stage, and she showed off a few dance moves as the crowd cheered.

Karabo Musa of Soul Food Comedy said that the comediennes would share the stage with renowned comic, Anne Kansiime during her South Africa and Botswana tours.

“We believe that in three to five years’ time, Botswana should be able to export female comediennes of Anne Kansiime’s calibre and sell out shows around the globe,” she said.

The event also celebrated Women’s Month.
