Lobelo off-road race attracts 30 riders

Berrie said the race would be organised using a Global Positioning System (GPS), which is still new in the country and Africa.
“We are the first people to use the GPS and I will encourage the use of GPS in motorbike racing national championship for easier tracking of racers,” she said.
She said the loop is about 55km and riders would be expected to complete four laps. She indicated that the route goes through Sekukwe River and spectators would be able to view the riders on the river bridge just before Mupane Mine. Berrie added that the lap comprises the river sections, Mupane forest sections, some rocky sections and fast open sections. She revealed that Clayton Davis, Wayne Berrie, Sean Jackson, Cobus Labascagne will represent Francistown. Other riders expected to be in the thick of things are Dartagnan Lobjoit, Douglas Morris, Ryan Meyer, Byron Coetzee and Robert Pollock. The race has no sponsor and Berrie encouraged more companies and individuals to recognise motorbike racing as a sport and invest more in it.
She noted that the race would give riders the platform to score points in order to participate in the national championship at the end of the year.
