The bodies that were found tied together and dumped in the pond on June 20, 2015, were that of a 22-year-old woman and 32-year-old man, who had been missing since June 15, 2015.

Yesterday, police spokesperson, assistant commissioner Christopher Mbulawa said they suspect that it is a case of murder.

“There is still nothing to report on. We have reason to believe it was a case of murder. Investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

Previously the police reported that the two were discovered with no visible injuries on their bodies. The man hailed from Nlaphwane in the North East, whilst the woman was from Ntlhantlhe in the Southern district.

A passerby, who saw the two bodies floating, reported this ghastly discovery to the police. Before the discovery of their lifeless bodies, a case of missing persons was reported at the Mogoditshane Police Station.

According to insiders, the man who resided in Francistown at the time of his death was in Gaborone visiting the woman to celebrate her birthday, which was on June 14, 2015.

“The woman is my neighbour back in our village. I heard that she met with the man for their date night on her birthday. She went out that night together with a friend and the man. After a night of festivities, they went to drop the friend off at her home and went missing,” said an insider.
