Half parley questions answered

The Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Kokorwe has revealed that 443 questions were not answered and there were varied reasons for that.
“It should be understood that Parliament only takes 10 questions per day not more than that. Some of the questions were not answered because there were either deferred or the Minister was absent to answer the said question. Other questions were not completely in the order paper,” Kokorwe told Mmegi.
She said the remaining questions would have to be resubmitted by the MPs who had asked them for the next session, after the State of National Address by President Ian Khama.
Kokorwe said some questions would not automatically be in the order paper if there are not re-submitted by MPs.
“The MPs will have to check if those questions are still relevant or not. We also have 139 motions that have not been debated. The owners of those motions that have not been tabled or discussed before Parliament have to resubmit them for the next session,” she said.
Kokorwe said the last session had 150 motions, eight of which were debated and passed while the other three were debated and rejected.
She said Parliament had two policies that were tabled and adopted. These were the Land, and Gender and Development policies.
For the Ministers’ Question Time, six out of 37 questions have been answered and the remaining 31 questions are expected to be answered in the next session. The next Parliament session will be held on November 9 up to December 11.
