The 26 goals meant an average of 3.25 goals per game were scored in games that had no scoreless draw.

Defending champions, Chiefs sent a strong warning with a 5-0 shellacking of a hapless BR Highlanders at the Molepolole Sports Complex on Saturday as new signing Jackie Mothatego led the rout.

It was the weekend’s biggest winning margin and Mike Sithole would be happy with the perfect start.

Rollers responded later on Saturday night, dismissing BDF XI 4-1 with a Segolame Boy brace.  Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Lawrence Majawa weighed in with the other goals to ensure a winning start for Englishman, Mark Harrison. Gaborone United, expected to have a huge say in the title race, registered an opening day win with a 2-0 defeat of Gilport Lions on Sunday.  Benson Shilongo and Mathew Nyamadzabo were on target to give Rahman Gumbo’s charges the right tonic.

At the Maun Sports Complex, coach Keitumetse ‘Pio’ Paul got a competitive debut win as Extension Gunners beat Sankoyo Bush Bucks 2-1.

New signing Mogomotsi Mokoka got his first goal for the Peleng boys.

Rookies Green Lovers made a winning debut with a shock 3-2 victory over Nico United at Serowe Sports Complex, with marksman Moatlhodi Ralesotla bagging a brace.

Miscellaneous and Motlakase Power Dynamos encounter could not produce a winner as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw.

Debutant Tapiwa Gadibolae’s goal could not save Jwaneng Galaxy from defeat as they lost 2-1 to Police XI. 

In another game, Orapa United beat FC Satmos by a solitary Thabang Sesenyi goal.

Chiefs’ Keaketswe Moloi, Boy and Ralesotla are currently the top goal scorers with two goals each. Chiefs, Orapa United and GU are the only teams yet to concede while Lions, Highlanders and Satmos are yet to score.

Meanwhile, the majority of the foreigners who where signed in the transfer season are yet to make debuts for their respective teams as they are awaiting work permits.

The list includes South African dribbling wizard Mkhanyasile Siwahla and defender Charles Mutero of Chiefs, British striker Carl Finnigan of Rollers and GU’s Ghanaian defender Godwin Bonsu.
