Khama awards excelling cops

Commemorating its 131 years since inception the police service has been seen by many as a contributing factor towards Botswana’s widely acknowledged diplomatic and passive nature.

Khama recognised through an award ceremony the officers behind the police force.The medals were awarded as a way of recognising deserving members of the police service for outstanding conduct in their daily duties. 

As he arrived, the police band clad in their blue and red uniform welcomed Khama in style through their melodious tunes.

At the ceremony one could easily note the commitment from the officers that flocked the grounds with their family members.

Amongst the awards was the Botswana Police Long Service and Good Conduct medal. This honour was for  those officers who had served for a continuous period of 18 years by conduct and character showing worthiness of such an award.

Another prestigious award was that of the Distinguished Service Order, which was awarded to police officers that had shown devotion to their duty. However it  could only be attained after serving a period of 30 years.

Amongst the recipients of the awards was Assistant Commissioners, Christopher Mbulawa, Motsekedi Motloutse as well as senior Superintendents Kevin Mookodi and Mahoko Tamajobe who all received the Distinguished service order medal.

The Botswana Police Service prides itself with four core values being Botho, Excellence, Integrity and Teamwork.

The service evolved over the years since it started in 1984. The service went through different changes of administration that culminated into a fully-fledged police organisation today.

Amongst those who have gone through its administration, present at the award ceremony on Friday was the former police commissioner, Thebeyame Tsimako.

The speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Kokorwe, also graced the ceremony.
