Cop in court over P3,000 bribe to destroy docket

 

According to papers before the courts, Alidy Alidy stands accused of accepting a bribe from one Gagoitsewe Thakotona on February 21, 2012.

The officer has pleaded not guilty to the charge and his corruption case will continue on August 31.

 Meanwhile, a lawyer also found himself in the dock answering charges at the Village Magistrate Court yesterday.

Sam Motoriti appeared before Lenah Oahile-Mokibe to face two counts of obtaining by false pretences. The court learnt that the 47-year-old lawyer had on April and November 2009 obtained money from one Felix Majebe claiming the fees were for consultation and other expenses.

“Motoriti between April and November 2009 in Gaborone, with intent to defraud, obtained P1,500 from Felix Majebe pretending that the aforesaid amount represented consultation fees.  “In fact and in truth all legal fees including consultation fees were covered by the Government of Botswana and as such he was not entitled to the money. At the time he made the representation he knew at all material times that it was false.”

“On the second count the accused obtained P3,000 from Majebe by falsely pretending that the aforesaid amount represented expenses he incurred in the conduct of a criminal matter in which the latter was facing a single count of murder,” the charge sheet read.

 The lawyer is set to appear for mention on August 14.
