The BDP Francistown regional committee has arranged the meeting, which is expected to take place on Saturday.  BDP Francistown chairperson, Sabelo Matikiti yesterday confirmed that the regional leadership would hold a meeting over the weekend to discuss the recent complaints raised by Muzila to the party, and reach a final decision on the matter. The weekend meeting will be a follow-up to another one which was held last Saturday when the regional committee met with Muzila to discuss her concerns regarding councillors she alleged want to oust her through a motion of no confidence.

Matikiti however refused to discuss the agenda of the upcoming meeting or even reveal the identities of those who will be in attendance, stating that it will be an internal matter.

A high ranking source within the party’s Francistown region yesterday told Mmegi that the BDP had organised a reconciliation meeting which would feature Muzila as well as councillors Peter Ngoma and Lechedzani Mudenga.  The two councillors are the party members Muzila allegedly fingered as plotting her ouster.

Mudenga is Muzila’s deputy while Ngoma is a specially nominated councillor.

“It will be a reconciliation meeting because the regional committee feels that the allegations raised by Muzila are difficult to prove since they are informed by media reports.

Since the allegations are hard to prove, members of the committee believe that it warrants that no action be taken against the councillors accused of planning to oust the mayor,” said the source.

In an interview last week, Muzila refused to discuss allegations that she had sought protection from the party after the threat to oust her became a topical issue in town.

“I cannot discuss internal party matters with the media,” she stated firmly.

For his part, Ngoma laughed off these allegations, adding that he was not aware of any reconciliation meeting planned by the party’s regional committee. He also shot down allegations that he was planning to topple Muzila.

“I have always defended and supported the mayor ever since she assumed her position,” he said.  Ngoma, who is the former mayor of Fracistown, said the party has also not contacted him about the allegations levelled against him.

“Let me not discuss the matter further because I am constrained when it comes to talking to the media,” he said.

Mudenga also denied knowledge of the meeting or the allegations levelled against him.   “A lot has been said about me and Ngoma with reference to toppling the mayor but its all untrue,” she said.
