Speaking at the tournament’s prize giving ceremony, Kelosiwang said the BGU is grateful of their partnership with Dr Kim Invitation tournament.

“We applaud them for the good work they have shown since this tournament started in 2009,” he said.

He said the tournament is unique particularly for the northern part of the country as there are few charity events.

“This tournament is one of the few unique tournaments in the northern part of this country because its proceeds are donated to charity and we have few charity events this side,” he said.

He said the BGU plans to allocate more tournaments to Selebi-Phikwe as the club has proved to be a capable host.

“BGU will explore and give Selebi-Phikwe more tournaments to host.

This year it was the third time Selebi-Phikwe Club hosted this tournament and they have shown that they are capable,” he said. Meanwhile, Kelosiwang said the BGU would meet the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) in November to pilot golf in schools within Gaborone as a way of developing golfers from the grassroots.

“We are meeting BISA officials in November this year to negotiate piloting golf in schools in Gaborone,” he said.

He added they are hopeful that they will introduce golf at Maruapula Secondary School in September before spreading to other schools.

The spokesperson for the Dr Kim Invitation tournament, Thabo Chamme said their intention is to grow the tournament every year.

“We try to make the tournament grow every year and I am glad that every year the tournament records a growth,” he said. The tournament, which was also graced by the famous Gauteng bikers, the Sopranos, was played over two days.
