Confidential govt files stolen

Mystery surrounds a burglary that occurred recently when intruders broke into the offices of the RAC and stole nothing.

They did such a clean job that officials who reported for work in the morning were stunned into complete inaction.

What shocked the officers even more was to find that the robbers seemed not interested in valuables, but confidential files. A shocked Ramotswa station commander Mothusi Phadi confirmed the break-in.

“It looked like they were extracting a confidential paper on the file. But it is not clear which file they were looking for.

“We’re talking of double storey offices. In the first floor they broke into five offices while on the second floor the broke into seven. But they never tempted with money safes,” said a nonplussed Phadi.

He said the thieves never broke into revenue offices and tried to open a safe that was inside the district commissioner’s office.

Phadi said drawers were pulled down and some files were opened.

“We are still investigating this matter because it happened in the wee hours of Friday morning. Officers will keep on reporting things that are stolen from their offices. Only a laptop on deputy council secretary’s office was stolen,” he said.

He said in total, close to 15 offices were broken into, including six caravans that are housing poverty eradication, education and council IT offices.

The double storey houses the district officer while second floor accommodates council secretary and his deputy and other officers for South East South council.

The police boss said the tool that was used is a new burglary technique because it destroys the locking system.
