Rollers move: Magagane

The committee chairperson, Sam Keitireng said they have not received official communication from Magagane on his new appointment.

Keitireng told Mmegi Sport yesterday they can only discuss the way forward after receiving communication from Magagane.  Magagane said he remains a member of the First Division Committee until he is voted out. He said there is no requirement that he should inform the committee about his involvement with Rollers.

He said his new role is a voluntary football position just like when he was the manager of Letlapeng.

Magagane said he was not the only person in the Premier League who is part of the First Division committee.

The committee is currently operating without a vice-chairperson after Keitireng was promoted following the departure of former chairperson, Tariq Babitseng. Keitireng said the committee was scheduled to meet last weekend but the meeting was postponed to August 9. He said the vice chairperson’s position would be filled at the next meeting.  He said the new vice chairperson would be picked from the current committee. He said they are going to appoint someone from clubs to be an additional member.

“We do no want to start the season with an incomplete committee. The meeting will also welcome teams that have joined our league,” said Keitireng.

Rolling Boys spokesperson, Tshiamo Marekwa said he was interested in the additional member’s post. He said the committee members had shown interest in his services.

Meanwhile, the First Division representative to the Botswana Football Association executive committee, Eatametse Olopeng said he would meet with the committee to discuss Magagane’s matter.

He said it was difficult for an individual to serve in two roles at the same time.

“I have long told the committee to put their house in order like their counterparts in the north.  “The position of vice chairperson should have been filled in the last meeting. Right now the position of secretary general might become vacant,” Olopeng said.

The First Division North League, meanwhile, is expected to kick off in the first weekend of September.  The first game is between relegated Premier League side ECCO City Greens and Kazungula Young Fighters in Kasane.

Olopeng said they decided to start the season in September because they wanted the BFA special assembly to be held first.

He said the assembly, to be held on August 29, is meant to adopt the BFA new constitution. He said they did not want any disruptions to the league. Draft fixtures have already been released.
