Bowling teams begin Africa States preparations

The teams go into camp this weekend as they prepare to face Kenya, Namibia, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe in the annual tournament.

The competition is contested for in four disciplines being the singles, pairs, triples and fours for both men and women category.

The country that is able to accumulate most points in all disciplines wins the overall trophy.  Last year, the ladies triples team of Tibone Fox, Obopile Ashby and Tirelo Buckley came home with a silver medal while the pairs team of Lebogang Mascarenhans and Pauline Lekone won bronze. Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) spokesperson, John Gaborutwe said the final squad would be selected on August 3 after the weekend’s training camp.

“The national team will be selected on August 3 by Tom Burgees and Violet Wheatley,” he said.

Bowlers comprising of 11 men and 10 women will go into camp this weekend.

In men’s team Boitumelo Mosinyi, Regent Reid, Remmy Kebapetse (all from Jwaneng) while Oabona Motladiile, Khumo Kebalatetse, Diane Senna and John Gaborutwe have been picked from the Selebi-Phikwe club.

Kabo Gaboutloeloe, Tim Morton, are from Gaborone while Kitso Robert is from Orapa.

Binkie Gaborutwe, Nelly Senna (Phikwe), Tibone Fox, Lekone, Chakale Robert, Marea Modutlwa (Gaborone), Tirelo Buckley, Mpopi Pelemo, Gasegarona Pabalelo (Jwaneng) and Doreen Moleleki (Orapa) make up the women’s squad.
