Deadly: The honeybadger is renowned as being fearless

According to Letlhakane Police station commander, superintendent Michael Maphephu, the deceased had recently gone into the bush looking for his livestock as usual, only to come face-to-face with the fearless creature. “Apparently the man used an arrow to fight the creature and unfortunately during the fight he mistakenly shot himself with the arrow,” said the police boss. Maphephu added that the deceased was found after two days in an unconscious state and was taken to a hospital where he later died. The creature appeared to have also died during the fight. “Whenever people go into the bush, they should always be in the company of someone else so that when they get involved in any incidents, it is easier for them to defend themselves against deadly animals,” advised Maphephu. Meanwhile, Maphephu said police are on the hunt for three men who robbed a hardware shop in Letlhakane and stole cash amounting to P7,675.15. It is believed the suspects entered the shop, tied the workers to chairs using rope before robbing the store. Afterwards the robbers locked the workers in a storeroom and fled. “We are told that it was a group of three middle aged men, but we cannot confirm that they used a vehicle in the robbery,” said Maphephu. “We advise shop owners to look around for suspicious characters when they are opening or closing their shops. “If they see something unusual, they should always alert the police.” Maphephu also said that they are troubled by people who illegally trade in marijuana around the village. The Station Commander also said police have nabbed three people during a stop, question and search operation targeted at drug peddlers in the village. He said drug peddlers in Letlhakane use the guise of selling cigarettes, while marijuana is their main trade.
