Mingo releases third single

Somewhere follows singles Le Nna Ke Teng and Mozezuru. Possibly what sets this song apart from the first two is that Somewhere has an appealing introduction and the production, impressive.

The instrumental encompasses the original sound of kwaito that was popular in the 1990s and a mixture of the recent American hip-hop beats.

Ace J produced the song and fused Mingo’s deep vocals with the distinctive beat to create a perfect alignment.

Perhaps when heard for the first time, one would confuse Somewhere for the ‘ratchet music’ sound of one American producer, DJ Mustard.  The sound also has some element of Vee’s Pompa Tswidi from back in the day.

Mingo’s delivery is constant throughout the song and the vocals enhance his natural voice.  He begins by uttering the questions ‘Ke go bone kae? Re kopane kae?’ (Where did I see you? Where did we meet?). The questions are then answered later in the song where he speculates about all the places they could have met.

From the lyrics, Somewhere is a song that was addressed to a female and the questions in the song are mostly used as pickup lines.

Speaking to Showbiz, Mingo said he wanted to cater for Batswana’s needs where he fused elements of Hip-Hop and Kwaito.

“I had to be deep and come up with something that is up to date,” he explained.

Mingo said he had sampled the song in various music festivals and so far it had received great reception.

“I always do my research before releasing singles. I sample all the new songs during shows and in the end I release the most popular one first,” he said.

He added that the album was ready, but he still had to sit with his record label and decide on the release date.

Mingo said the video for Somewhere would premiere on Botswana Television’s Flava Dome tomorrow. Though signed under BMM, Somewhere was recorded at PLMG.
