Asylum Nights adds impetus to the rap industry

The event, which is hosted by Touch Motswako and Mono Rac, gives rappers a platform to showcase their craft in different forms such as freestyles, rap battles and performances.

With only a few months of establishment, the event has acquired a name and brought a number of changes in the rap industry.

Touch Motswako said, “the quality of upcoming rappers who exhibit their talent is of international standard. Asylum Nights is their only platform thus far as there are no Hip-hop talent platforms in Botswana.”

He stated that the event gives upcoming rappers free publicity, access to perfect their crowd interaction and a chance to get exposed to potential music investors.

“Asylum Nights has thus far grabbed massive attention amongst Botswana Hip-hop supporters at an alarming rate.”

Touch Motswako mentioned that even established rappers such as Apollo D, Trauma, Ice Queen, Oatsdona, Pongo Rista and Drak have graced the Hip-hop event to showcase their craft and mentor upcoming rappers.

With the presence of Asylum Nights, one can safely say rappers now have a free platform to exhibit their tracks. Of late rappers have been voicing up saying they are denied the platform to perform.

Currently Asylum Nights episodes are available on YouTube named after the event and Touch Motswako said it will soon be broadcast on TV as a stand-alone programme. “We are here to help rappers attain their dream. The only problem (we are facing) is lack of resources to professionalise our events.

We need empowerment to help grow the Hip-hop industry” said Touch Motswako. Upcoming rappers such as AFM, Jt Specialboy, Porsche, Nikka Blair, Danielle Swagger, Skater Boi and Redd have taken part in the Hip-hop event.

Asylum Nights is set to engage other Hip-hop elements such as beat boxing and break dancing and.

Asylum Nights takes place every Monday at Razzmatazz in Phase 2, Gaborone. It starts at 7 pm till 10: 30pm.
