Gabz Fm Disco night a success

Music lovers invaded the show bedecked in 70’s and 80s themed outfits and outlandish hairstyles. Last year, the show was strictly by invitation, but this year the station wanted everyone to come and loosen up as they put up tickets for sale. The show started at 7pm until late and tickets carried a P350 price tag inclusive of finger foods and complimentary 4th Street Wine tasting.
The show started late and seemingly unhurried, but as the night progressed, revellers started pouring in. The disc jockey( Dj ) line-up included Botswana's best Djs such as Spinz, Groove Cartel, Kellz and Zimbabwe’s Otis Fraser. The music was old school jams that kept showgoers dancing all night as they screamed and sang along to every song played. The genres played were from kwaito classics, disco to hip-hop classics.
Groove Cartel started with his set and warmed up people to the dance floor. Dj Spinz followed him before the night’s crowd puller, Otis Fraser then Kellz and Groove Cartel again.
Sky Fm radio presenter, Otis Fraser had a longer set, as revellers could not get enough of him. The talented Dj once worked as a radio presenter and a Dj in Botswana.
Many people remembered him from his days on RB2 and Gabz fm with his sexy voice and skills on the decks at events. Fraser told Showbiz afterwards that he was happy to have been invited by Gabz fm.
“I hope to come back regularly and play. I mostly play mostly 70’s and 80s ragga, tempo and disco music,” he said.
The crowd was mostly mature with a smattering of young professionals. Botswana celebrities and socialites graced the event.
Some even shared their memories of the music back in the days with friends and family. The mood at the show was great as many people were happy about the reminiscences.
The dance floor was packed as people formed a circle and took turns on showcasing their dance moves. The station’s presenters were present and fans got the opportunity to meet and have fun with them.
According to Gabz fm Client Relations Manager, Tsholofelo Mosa Makgoeng they have decided to change from the annual Gabz fm 60’s show to the disco music to make it more fun and regular.
She also said that the night was a success, as people were enamoured with the show.
'We chose Otis as a guest Dj as he used to work for our station and was a crowd puller,' Makgoeng volunteered the information.
