Mariri was not only representing the country at the international beauty pageant, but the whole continent as she was the only African participant.

She contested against other 14 competitors from different countries such as Panama, Canada and USA.

Airam Amador, who hails from Panama, won the pageant.

Mariri managed to be the fourth runner up out of all the contestants that also voted for her to be Miss Congeniality due to her bubbly and gregarious personality.

Miss Congeniality is judged by the way a model interacts with her contemporaries and how she presents herself.

The 23 year old Mariri who took several branded elements such as flags and T-shirts that she wore throughout her stay gushed about her experience.

“The experience was awesome as I was the only African at the pageant, I managed to brand and benchmark the Botswana brand.

Being the only African at the pageant led to creating a lot of relationships with other models, I taught them a lot about the country and the continent as a whole,” she said.

Mariri added that winning these tittles would add an impetus on her charity works since she has spoken with the Miss Petite Universe organisers to assist her.

“I am planning on opening an academy that will groom upcoming models, at the moment I will not say much about it since it is still in the pipeline,” she said.

The petite model arrived in the country on Friday evening, and was welcomed by her family and friends at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.

Mariri has participated in several pageants such as Miss World Tourism Botswana 2013, where she was crowned the first princess to Motamma Sesinyi.
