UDC parties go under one-roof

The UDC president Duma Boko said this when addressing the Botswana National Front (BNF) conference in Goodhope. The UDC affiliates include BNF, Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) and Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).

“This idea came about because it was appreciated that the parties were all struggling to operate offices and relied on their income on the subscriptions of their Members of Parliament and councillors. This limited income stream has to run all the operations of the party and enable it to also cover the breadth and dimensions of the country to canvass for support and also assist in the operations of the UDC,” said Boko who is also the BNF president.

He said it was appreciated that this approach was unsustainable and resulted in serious challenges. Boko said it was agreed that the UDC needed an office of its own where all its activities would be coordinated and managed. “It also needs full time professional staff and equipments. Six people would be employed at the office.

“The office was offered by a kind benefactor for a reasonable rental for that size and quality building at a minimal cost.

These offices would be properly branded in accordance with the desires of each party and enable them to pool resources and enjoy access to an efficient plant and equipment as well as support services,” he said.

He said the streamlining of activities in this manner would ensure for the BNF access to the Internet as well as the operation of a website that is integrated into the UDC website to avoid the current heavy expenditure burden that is unsustainable.
