Speaking at the event, JTC clerk Dick Kalantle said they have successfully hosted the awards for three consecutive years and the fruits of their labour are visible.

The awards, Kalantle said, are simply an incentive programme for appreciation of good service delivery.

“We are here to award individuals with a strong sense of duty, who display tireless efforts and who are globally competitive,” he said.

He said with limited resources, public servants continue to strive for excellence and sacrifice by going an extra mile to deliver quality service to the public.

Kalantle assured employees that their input in the day-to-day running of the council is highly valued.

He further said motivation of staff is vital to improve productivity and success is cultivated by improving staff morale.

Another speaker, Director of Institutional Planning at Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) Margret Baiketsi stated that their mandate as HRDC is to advise the government to empower citizens through education.

She advised that Botswana has to be a knowledge-based economy and has to unearth the realisation of each employee’s full potential.

“Today’s job market is solely looking for competent and multi-skilled individuals rather than ones with just qualifications,” she added.

Meanwhile, among the 71 employees who received awards were those with “long and distinguished service to the council.

These included  people who served the council for more than 30 years, those who served for 20 years, retirees and other deserving recipients.

The day belonged to JTC’s Principal System analyst, Milton Seeletso, who clinched three awards; department’s best performer, most creative and innovative employee and employee of the year.

Seleetso said his victory cemented his conviction that it was good to build interpersonal relationships with other employees and customers as well as mentor new employees.

He was praised for his puctuality and his incessant demand for quality work from contactors whenever they are engaged by the council.

His department, Human Resource and Admin also scooped the award “the department of the year”.
