As Vee, Punah make their debut on International awards, Zeus features again

The name of local chart-topping muso, Odirile Sento popularly known as Vee in music circles, has popped up as a candidate for the Best Male Southern Africa.
Vee, who will be making his international debut, is up against the man he featured on his song “Charger”, Casper Nyovest, as well another South African rapper, AKA, Zimbabwe’s Stunner, Namibia’s The Dogg, “Denial” hitmaker Donald, Zambia’s Slapper as well as another local, Zeus.
Vee said he is not shaken that he is up against some of, not only Southern Africa, but also Africa’s big names. He said he is confident that he will make Batswana proud at the awards.
“Zeus is the only name that may just give me competition, with the others although I respect their work I know I will win that category,” he said.
The “Eita” hitmaker further said that he is excited about the awards and hopes that Botswana music will only grow from here.
Another newbie at the awards will be Punah Gabasiame-Molale, who released her long awaited album last week. Punah will be featuring at the category of the Best Female Southern Africa.
The Letlhafula hitmaker will be up against other female giants in Southern Africa including South Africa’s Bucie, Busiwa, Toya de Lazy, former Big Brother Africa (BBA) contestant and Zambian rapper Ice Queen Cleo, Mozambique’s Lizha James.
In the category another local name will be called up for the world, and this name will be none other than newly-wed Samantha Mogwe.
Mogwe, whose hit song Transitions featuring Zeus enjoyed massive airplay on local radio station was also nominated for the inaugural Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAs).
Kearoma Rantao, who was nominated for Best female Southern Africa last year, will miss out on this yea’s installment. Still last year, Zeus received two nominations, this year however he will miss out on the Best Rap Act category as he maintains his slot on the Best Male Southern Africa award.
This year’s edition will be co-hosted by Nigeria’s BasketMouth along side Uganda’s funny girl Anne Kansimme. AFRIMMA caters for all music genres including but not limited to Afrobeats, Assiko, Bongo, Decale, Funana, Genge, Highlife, Kwaito, Lingala and Soukous.
The awards are said to create a platform to promote the diversity of African music. The nominees were released this past Tuesday. This year will mark the second edition of the African awards.
