Like Volume 1, Volume 2 is about 600 pages strong and constitutes 18 elaborate and elegantly written chapters.

The guest  speakers at the launch will be Dr Keith Jefferies, Botswana’s most eminent economist, who also  wrote the book’s foreword, and Dr Thapelo Clayton Matsheka, another seasoned economist who is presently Chief Executive Officer for Aon Botswana.

The essential thrust of Volume 2 is microeconomic as opposed to macroeconomic. Magang discusses specific economic sectors such as Agriculture, Education, Retail, the Banking industry, and the Tourism industry.

Magang also posits arguments for and against privatisation, articulates the case for manufacturing and export trade, and pronounces on whether the IFSC has meaningfully redounded to Botswana’s economic wellbeing.

In addition, Magang has devoted five chapters to an analysis of the performances of state-owned enterprises.

All in all, Volume 2 is advisory in its general orientation. In it, Magang proposes a tack government should take if it has to retrace its way on the road to prosperity from which it seems to have deviated.

He asks the questions: Why has Botswana’s economy practically stalled?  How  can the economic engine be kick-started and make up for its inertia of yesteryears?

In charting the way forward, Magang points the country’s economic brain trust to countries like Dubai, Singapore, Chile, Mauritius, and Rwanda, all of which more or less began on the same economic footing as Botswana and are now either resoundingly buoyant  economies or exhibit stirringly great potential.

Attached is an excerpt from one of the chapters and an image of the cover.
