The fixture, which has unofficially taken over as the highlight of the season, will come in Week 12, with the league kicking off on August 7. While the game between Gaborone United (GU) and Rollers had in the past been seen as the biggest drawcard in the local football calendar, clashes between Rollers and Chiefs have since eclipsed that.
The rivalry was not only fuelled by the two teams’ dominance on the field, but also through their battle on the transfer market.
Both Rollers and Chiefs have been involved in disputes over players’ transfers.
On the field, they have dominated the league and won more than any other side in the last 10 years. Before that titanic clash, there are other interesting clashes scheduled in the first few weeks of the BPL schedule.
Extension Gunners will take on GU on August 29. Recently, GU dealt Gunners a blow when they snatched Tshepo Maikano and Katlego Koobake from the Peleng side.
Before the fixture, the two giants are likely to lock horns before the Players’ Status Committee (PSC) over the transfer of Maikano. Both sides have claimed his signature.
Chiefs will then take on GU on September 12 before they meet Gunners seven days later. The game between Gunners and Chiefs will be played at the New Francistown Stadium.
The Gaborone derby between Rollers and GU will take place on October 3 at the National Stadium. Meanwhile, two fixtures are lined up on the opening day of action. Orapa United are at home to FC Satmos at Itekeng Stadium while Motlakase Power Dynamos invade Miscellaneous at Serowe Complex.
The following day, defending champions, Chiefs will be up against BR Highlanders, Rollers take on BDF XI while new comers, Green Lovers face off with Nico United.
Police XI lock horns with Jwaneng Galaxy while Sankoyo Bush Bucks welcome Gunners in Maun. On Sunday, Gilport Lions (formerly BMC) take on GU.
