Molale resigns from Cabinet, Khama reappoints him within hours

 

On Friday morning, Government Spokesperson Jeff Ramsay issued a press statement saying, “In separate letters to the President and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Eric Mothibi Molale has, as from today, resigned from his positions as Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration and as a Specially Elected Member of Parliament.” 

The reasons advanced for his resignation were stated in the release. Molale said, 'The sole purpose of this resignation is to allow me to contest and represent the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the Goodhope-Mabule Constituency in the forthcoming bye-election.' 

Later in the day Government issued another statement, through their Facebook page titled “Breaking News: President Khama has re-appointed Mr. Eric Molale to cabinet in accordance with Section 42 Of The Constitution”. 

The statement said, “His Excellency the President, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, has this morning exercised his authority under Section 42 of the Constitution to reappoint Mr. Eric Mothibi Molale as Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration”. 

Interestingly the release further said the Minister will not attend parliament.
