Player fights: Drago reportedly clashed with players

Speaking at the club’s annual general meeting over the weekend, Dlamini said the coaches they employed last season did not develop the team, but were rather destroying what Gunners had.

“The coaches that we had last season were not bringing any development to the team, but rather they destroyed what Gunners had. Drago (Stanlojovic) did not treat players fairly and he literally fought our players on several occasions and we could not tolerate that.

“Some of our players who were selected for the national team were never supposed to be on the bench at club level at any point. The Botswana Football Association [BFA] technical director (Kgomela) also criticised the idea,” he said. Drago denied fighting with players. “No, no it is not correct. Kitso is not correct (sic),” he said.

On other issues, Dlamini said they have maintained 91 percent of their squad. He indicated that they are tracking five players with a view to signing them. Dlamini cleared reports that him and Cassim Dada were at loggerheads.

He said some of the Gunners sponsors have revealed that they are not happy with some of the committee members.

Meanwhile, at the same meeting, BFA president, Tebogo Sebego encouraged local teams to establish well kept databases. Sebego emphasised the need for proper record keeping, saying it is a very crucial instrument, more especially when teams seek sponsorship. “Teams such as Gunners must establish solid databases. Most local teams including the national teams are struggling to keep statistics. For example, we struggle a lot when we need the results of games that the national team played three years back,” Sebego said. He further said databases are also important when determining the value of a team, when drawing budgets and giving a possible sponsor a forecast of funds needed by a team. He further encouraged Gunners management to encourage good behaviour among its supporters citing that as a brand, reputation is important. He gave Gunners a mandate of either reaching the final or winning the next edition of the Mascom Top 8.

“I want to see Gunners either at the Mascom Top 8 final or winning the cup. Gunners need that cup. Let’s take the team back to its  glory days,” Sebego said lightheartedly.
