Crossing the Rubicon: Moyana

Rollers have signed Galabgwe Moyana who was at Chiefs last season. The move continues a recent trend where players cross what should be a sacred Rubicon between the two sides.

Rollers spokesperson, Bafana Pheto confirmed Moyana’s capture. “We are close to wrapping up the negotiations and we expect Galabgwe to join our squad soon,” he said.

Pheto said apart from Moyana, they have three signings in Mogogi ‘Gino’ Gabonamong, Carl ‘Rocky’ Finnigan and Modiredi ‘Zokora’ Matengu who joins from Sankoyo.

Pheto was however, quick to refute reports linking the club with former players, Kabelo Dambe and Zebras captain, Joel Mogorosi.

“Dambe was in the country for his cup games. As far as we know, he will be heading back to Stars,” he said.

Pheto indicated that Rollers have outstanding goalkeepers; Mwampule Masule and Noah Maposa therefore there was no need to sign an extra goalkeeper unless the coach sees it fit.

As for Mogorosi, Pheto said there has never been talks with the player who is a free agent.

“Mogorosi is currently undergoing trials in South Africa so he hasn’t approached Rollers and neither did we,” he said. Pheto said a talented crop of players like Motsholetsi Sikele and Sekana Koko play in the same position as Mogorosi. He said it was, therefore, highly unlikely the club will sign him.

Pheto said the only positions that needed reinforcement is left back and left winger currently held by Thato ‘Yellow’ Bolweleng and Kobamelo ‘Swere’ Kebaikanye respectively.

“Swere is alone in the left position and we need someone who can help him. Yellow is a right-footed player currently playing in a left position and our natural left back Otlaantshekela Mooketsi recently underwent an arm operation so he will be absent for half of the season,” he said.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs, on the other hand, will assess a few players on Saturday in the Kabelano Cup. While Magosi have already signed Jackie Mothatego and Patrick Kaunda, other players like Charles Motero from Zimbabwe and Gomez Mkhadawira from Zambia will be part of the Kabelano lineup.

Chiefs’ spokesperson, Clifford Mogomotsi said the club would make an official statement concerning their new signings. “The technical team will assess a lot of players among them local young stars and concrete decisions will be made after the Kabelano Cup,” he said.
