Media, lucky subscribers and hopeful producers came together to celebrate the launch of the highly anticipated DStv Zambezi Magic Channel. MultiChoice Botswana marked the new channel’s significance by inviting both Connie and Shona Ferguson to grace the event. The Fergusons were invited in their capacity as seasoned actors and producers; and more so as images of inspiration.

Launched onto the DStv platform on July 1 2015, Zambezi Magic (Channel 160) has been dubbed as “the home of Southern African TV Entertainment,” tailor-made to tell the stories we’ve all been waiting to tell and see. The aim of the channel is to provide the viewers with content that is closer to home. This offers long overdue prospects of Batswana producers finally having their work on DStv.

“There is a lot of talent in the creative industry in Botswana to feature on DStv. We invited local industry players to the launch to share this exciting news and give them a chance to get some tips from Connie and Shona, so that we can work together to grow the local industry,” said Thembile Legwaila, MultiChoice Botswana Public Relations and Publicity Executive.

“Botswana has a lot of stories to share and this is your time to tell them. But remember to ensure you produce good quality to compete with the rest. We are here to advise,” implored Shona.

Connie advised the producers to collaborate as Batswana, and with other countries, as there is a lot that we as Africans still need to learn about, especially from each other.

The launch, filled with intimate conversations, punctuated by vibrant music from local band extraordinaire, The Metrophones, at a venue roaring with local pride and panache, served as a true testament of the kind of exciting talent and inspiring content viewers can expect.

“Zambezi Magic is available in our DStv Compact, Compact Plus and Premium bouquets, from just P280.00. This means Zambezi Magic will be watched by multitudes of Southern Africans beyond our borders. We want to see truly Botswana productions on DStv,” concluded Legwaila.
