PEEC to revive BDP structures

Former assistant Minister of Health Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri heads the PEEC, which has 10 other members. The committee’s main task is to build party structures and to revive political education within the BDP, Mmegi has learnt. A source revealed that when they met with Khama on Monday, the president emphasised the need for the committee to tour the country to ensure that all party structures are functional.
“He complained that the previous committees did not perform as expected. The party had many complaints after primary elections because members were not registered by PEEC,” the source said.
He said PEEC had been tasked with registering new members and the members should at first apply with relevant structures such as cell and branch for approval. The source said the president also tasked PEEC to find ways in which Bulela Ditswe primary elections could be improved. He said the president told Matlhabaphiri that the reason why they chose him to be PEEC chairperson is because he believes that he has a relationship with party grassroots.
“The president believes that the party did not perform well in the South region during general elections because it was not in touch with its people. We need to know where our members are,” the source quoted the president as having said.
Meanwhile, Matlhabaphiri confirmed that he is the chairperson of PEEC and that they met with the president on Monday. “I cannot say anything until our committee has met. We are having our first meeting next week,” Matlhabaphiri said. Some of the PEEC members are Lesego Raditanka, Dineo Swartz, Alec Seametso, Reaboka Mbulawa, Ezekiel Kajuu, Goitseone Phori, Buti Billy, Ronald Shamukuni, Daisy Botsoma and Timothy Tlhalerwa.
