The new committee has planned an event at a date to be decided, where it will unveil its plans for the club.

At the same event, the club will parade its new players ahead of the start of new season.

The new club chairperson, Rapula Okaile said all these will be done once the team returns from South Africa where it is currently training.

They left this week as the start of the new season nears.

Okaile is one of the new faces in the club management following the elective annual general meeting held last weekend in Gaborone.

The elections followed weeks of reported tensions within the general membership over the eligibility of candidates.

After confirming the final list of the candidates, the club decided to evoke a clause, which barred other candidates from contesting for positions just days before the meeting.

The decision caused a stir among some members who felt that it was being applied to pave way for favoured candidates into the committee.

At the AGM, the general membership decided to waive the clause and allow the candidates to stand.

Okaile and Gofamodimo ‘City’ Senne were affected by the clause, but were saved by the general membership during the AGM.

Okaile stood for the chairmanship position against Tymon Katlholo.

The position was previously held by Fidelis Nkomazana who stood for the position of club president that was left vacant by Katlholo.

Senne, on the other hand, wanted the secretary general position and stood against Kennedy Ramojela.

Both Senne and Okaile prevailed and have now taken control of the club in the executive committee.

There were reported tensions during the AGM, which saw the elections being held late on the day, but Okaile said he would not call it a misunderstanding.

“It has been in the public domain that some of the candidates were vetted out because of some clause in the constitution but the AGM took a decision to waive that clause and allow us to stand for positions.

“On the day, we also did not form a quorum, but the general membership decided that the AGM should continue,” he said.

In other positions, Nkomazana was elected as the new president after beating Ntona Ketsitile. Nancy Borakanelo is the new treasurer after overcoming Goitsemang Lonkokile.

Meanwhile, the club is said to have parted ways with long serving striker, Ronald Chikomo. The player has reportedly been told to look for a new team after the arrival of new players. GU have already captured the likes of Katlego Koobake, Hendrick Moyo and Tshepo Maikano.

Another player who is said to be on his way out is winger, Mandla Mgadla. Okaile however could not deny or confirm the departure of the two players.

He said there has not been a hand over yet from the old committee and therefore is not privy to some developments regarding player movements.
