Leswaane down Chobe to grab volleyball title

Chobe went into the final as favourites after dismissing 2014 champions, Tsetsebjwe JSS 3-0 in the semi final. However, Leswaane fought bravely to win the final 3-1.
Tsetsebjwe finished in the third position. In the girls’ category, Chobe JSS prevailed over Shakawe 3-2 to grab the title. Eight teams took part from both the boys and girls’ section.
BISA volleyball national organiser, Daniel Tshune told Mmegi Sport that Chobe and Ngamiland schools did not participate in the competition last year due to malaria outbreak in the two districts. Tshune said the two districts have lot of talented players and it was not surprising to see them in the finals.
The girls best attacker and server awards went to Gosemama. Best blocker and most improved player awards went to Chobe JSS players.
Meanwhile, the South Central scooped 19 gold medals in the karate finals, which ended in Gaborone yesterday. The North region was second with 13 gold while the North Central came third with eight gold followed by the South region with four.
Four zones, being the north, north central, south and south central compete during the annual event.
Moselewapula JSS won female kata for Junior Secondary Schools while Nata walked away with the female team kata in the senior secondary schools section. Molefhi won the male kata in senior secondary schools category while Donga scooped a gold medal in male team kata in the junior secondary schools. Donga continued with its good run and bagged gold in the female team kumite. Moeding College won gold in the senior secondary schools category in female team kumite. The junior secondary schools male team kumite was won by Maoka JSS.
BISA karate national organiser, Kakanyo Emang said the competition went well as evidenced by fewer incidents of injuries. He said this is an indication that coaches had prepared the athletes and rules of the game were followed.
“We had around 100 schools participating with around 500 athletes. Each zone has about 25 schools,” he said.
He said it was important for students to participate in Botswana Karate Association tournaments as way of gaining exposure. Emang said BISA is always willing to provide coaching clinics but finance is always an issue.
