The BMD secretary general Gilbert Mangole confirmed Pilane’s application. “I have heard that he has applied but personally I have not seen the correspondence,” said Mangole.

The Mochudi West legislator explained that the former interim BMD spokesperson’s application should go through the branch committee before it reaches the National Executive Committee (NEC).

He explained that the branch would then make a recommendation to the NEC. Pilane’s application to rejoin the party he helped form will be on the agenda of the next NEC meeting. Pilane resigned from BMD after he lost the contest for presidency of the party against the late Gomolemo Motswaledi.

He recently wrote in a Sunday publication that he did not wish to return to the BMD. “I have no intention of returning to the BMD to seek to replace Hon. [Ndaba] Gaolathe or to be included in any structure. If I should return to the BMD, and I do not know if I will, I will not seek any position,” Pilane wrote on May 12, 2015.

Contacted for comment, Pilane confirmed that he was returning to the BMD.

'Yes, I am back in the BMD. I will not be running for president'.  Pilane was among the brains behind the formation of BMD in April 2010 in Mogoditshane. He stepped down from politics in 2012 citing his intentions to focus on his law practice.
