BR Highlanders crowned House of Love kings

The tournament, a charity initiative, was organised by the HoL chairman, the visually impaired Solly Obert. 

The first game saw Modipane United and Jwaneng Galaxy play to a 1-1 draw before the Modipane side prevailed 3-2 on penalties.  Stimela, as Highlanders is affectionately known, defeated Serowe side, Green Lovers in the other semi-final.

The Mahalapye side paraded new Tshepo ‘SchoolBoy’ Molefe and Kitso Chalashika, who impressed  and were on the score sheet in the first game. Otlaarongwa Nthumulang scored the other goal.   In the final, Highlanders prevailed 3-0 through captain, Leteng Legopelo, Moamogedi Thatogo and Onkokame Matsela. Green Lovers finished third after beating Galaxy 1-0 in the losers’ final.

HoL is a non-governmental organisation aimed at helping people living with disabilities and also disadvantaged members of the community.

“The main aim of the tournament was to raise funds for the disabled people; these people are disadvantaged so as someone who has a disability, I found it fit to help change their lives. “My target was to get over P1,000 from the tournament,” said Obert.

Obert said they managed to surpass the target as they made P6,000 through gate-takings. He said teams took half the sum while HoL remained with the other P3,000.

The money will be given to a needy person. Obert said he wants to make the tournament an annual event, with big teams targeted in future. “We are planning to invite a team from Zimbabwe to make the tournament more entertaining,” said Obert.

Meanwhile, BR Highlanders spokesperson, Jacob Monyeki  said the tournament worked well for them as they tried their new signings.
