If you have watched and enjoyed Lucy, Transcendence or Avengers Age of Ultron amongst others, then you better brace yourself for Terminator Genisys.

Terminator Genisys is the fifth installment in the Terminator movie series, and acts as a reconstruction that alters the original story’s timeline.

This new story reveals things and adds more twists on events of the previous stories. This time around, John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future.

An unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission to reset the future.

One of the main reasons that persuaded me to watch this flick was to see whether iconic action figure Arnold Schwarzenegger (68 years old) and now Governor of California still has it in him to lead this huge franchise once again.

He is back for sure, reprising his role as the Guardian cyborg to the humans. The movie also features hit series Game Of Thrones actress Emilia “Khaelisi” Clarke as a rebel against Skynet.

Alan Taylor, who has an impeccable reputation, having done big marvel franchises like Thor-The Dark World 2013, directs the movie.

The movie experience is very much explosive, whilst putting on your 3D glasses and you glance at another view’s 3D glasses, all you see is the mirror image of fire, owing to a lot of gunplay action. In one of the scenes Sarah Connor assassinates a T-800 cyborg, which was sent kill her.

Over the years Terminator villains have always been a cut above the rest.

In Terminator Genisys, the Skynet goes closer to winning the battle against humans as it plays checkmate with Sarah Connor.

The Skynet infiltrates John Connor’s body to become an unstoppable T-3000 hybrid cyborg, which is resistant to bullets.

Some of Terminator series enthusiasts felt Terminator 3: Rise of The Machine was way better than the fifth installment, Genisys particularly due to performances by the then cyborg villain T-X (Kristanna Loken).

Terminator Genisys only thrills as a result of some of its super-enhanced special features, whereby we get to see two T-800 fight each other, and the T-3000 cyborg having shape-shifting ability into any face it chooses.

The stunts however are ordinary.

Movie Reactions at Gamecity Cinemas

Ratanang Ikutlweng: “Dude, Schwarzenegger is back, and he rules. It’s like he doesn’t age. I enjoyed it, I don’t want to lie.”

David Jansen: “Perhaps I should check my computer operating system maybe Skynet is using a different name in this lifetime like Window 7 or 8 because 2017 is around the corner.”

A glance at the box office reception drawn from various cinemas and theatrical sales across the world for this movie, Terminator Genisys is certainly blowing cold.

It has not exploded as one would have thought, judging by the feverish anticipation.

The film premiered this past weekend, grossing $28 million dollars, and after a week in circuit, it currently sits on a worldwide figure of $131 million dollars.

Its predecessors Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines and Terminator Salvation outclassed it as they premiered with statistics of $44 and $42.5 million dollars before they went on to respectively amass $433.4 and $371.4 million dollars over all.

They were all done with a $200 million dollar budget according to box office. With the likes of other blockbusters like Mission Impossible Rogue Nation dropping soon, Genisys faces stiff competition.

In this week’s Box Office chart. Terminator Genisys fails to make a huge impact. Nonetheless, the tide has shifted positively for Inside Out.

This time travelling Terminator mission earns itself an 8/10 rating because it lacked that X-factor due to the film being a retcon. More is to come in the next installment.
