GU, Gunners on collision course over Maikano

Maikano’s contract at Gunners has elapsed, but the Peleng giants have said they have since renewed it for a further two years.
GU on the other hand have also announced him as one of the new faces on their team with the transfer window business gathering pace.
Gunners spokesperson Keorapetse Kgasa yesterday told Mmegi Sport that Maikano has signed with them.
“We negotiated with him and agreed on terms and exchanged hands regarding the signing on fee. He even came to training for a few days before he disappeared. That is when we heard he is at GU,” he said.
Kgasa said they have since written to GU, seeking clarity on the reports but the Reds have not yet responded.
“He is our player even though what was left was just to pen down the agreement. GU did not even inform us that they are intending to negotiate with him,” he said.
Maikano joined Gunners from BMC and has been a regular figure at the heart of their defence.
However, GU also insist the player belongs to them and have entered into a two-year agreement with him. Hebert Letsebe yesterday said that Maikano was a free agent. “We entered into negotiations and he signed a two year contract which has been stamped by the Botswana Premier League (BPL),” he said.
GU have been the busiest in the transfer window having confirmed signatures of Zebras left back Katlego Koobake from Gunners, Hendrick Moyo from Orapa United as well as Namibian striker, Nicky Musambani. Moyo was a revelation at Orapa United last season and finished second in the top goal scorers’ chart. They have since transfer listed defenders, Ace Seane, Gobonyeone Selefa and defender, Mpho Kgaswane who spent last season on loan at BMC.
Mathews Moruti has also been put up for sale. Jackie Mothatego, Tebogo Sembowa and Powell Abednico have been allowed to leave following the expiry of their contracts. Both Sembowa and Mothatego were recently linked with a move to premier league champions, Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
Several changes are also expected at Orapa United after the departure of coach, Maxwell Moyo who has reportedly joined Police XI.
Moyo led Orapa United to a second place finish in the beMOBILE Premier League last season. Moyo takes over as the head coach of Police XI, from Junior Lotlaamoreng who will now act as his assistant. Orapa United are now linked with former Township Rollers coach, Madinda Ndlovu as a replacement for Moyo.
Ndlovu parted ways with Rollers towards the end of last season.
