The slide in revenue has been attributed to the team’s poor performance this season, which saw Nico finishing off ninth. Nico made P2.4 million in the previous season, after a considerably successful season in which they finished fifth.

The club’s chairperson, Mothusi Taolo attributed the decline in figures to the team’s poor performance. “The attendance of games was very poor due to the team’s poor performance and that resulted in the club not making money from gate takings,” he said.

Taolo said failure to sell replica jerseys also contributed to the team’s low income.

He noted that in the previous season, the team managed to make more money because they sold replicas and had finished the season in a better position.

He stated that the team needs about P200,000 to start preparations for the next season, but they had no such amount. He pleaded with supporters to contribute towards raising funds.  Team supporters suggested that the club should embark on fundraising activities in order to raise money for the team.

“We cannot rely solely on the management to raise funds for the team.

As supporters, we have to come up with ways of raising funds. Supporters from other clubs can group themselves and organise a fundraising lunch as a way of making money,” said one supporter.

Taolo said their sponsor, BCL mine, has not increased the sponsorship amount in the past ten years. The club chairperson also advised the management to look for other partners.

“BCL mine has made it clear that they are not able to increase the sponsorship. They have given us the go ahead to solicit more sponsorship from other partners,’’ he revealed.
