  • Moyo, Mankgantai, Koobake on the radar

Orapa United striker, Hendrick Moyo, Extension Gunners’ left back Katlego Koobake and Nico United attacker Onkabetse Mankgantai have all been considered by the Mascom Top 8 champions.

All the three players were outstanding last season, which earned them call-ups to Peter Butler’s Zebras side.

Orapa United’s Moyo finished the season with 14goals, just one behind the eventual green boot winner, Lemponye Tshireletso.

His career appeared on a downward spiral prior to his switch to Orapa United. But a change of club saw him rediscover his lethal best under his former Extension Gunners coach, Maxwell Moyo.

But Orapa United spokesperson, Tebatso Hule said they have no intention of releasing Moyo.

“No one has contacted us. Moyo is here with us after returning from national duty. It is just rumours that he is leaving,” he said.

The quick-silver Mankgantai has been a revelation in his first full season where he proved a handful down the flank. He is comfortable coming from the wing or down the centre and brings a lot of pace.

However, the newly elected Nico United spokesperson, Ace Orapeleng has said they are keen to hold on to one of their most exciting prospects.

“There hasn’t been any approach regarding Mankgantai. In fact, we want to keep our best players since our intention is to compete,” he said.

Koobake had a dream season at Gunners, where he featured prominently at left back. He is adept at the back and equally useful as a menacing, attacking winger. If Koobake is signed, Edwin Olerile might find himself asked to do more of the attacking as a left sided midfielder.

But Gunners spokesperson, Keorapetse Kgasa said that they had not received any offer for the player.

“We have not heard anything from the player or any club,” he said.

GU secretary general, Herbert Letsebe said they have identified players although he did not reveal names.

“We are not targeting specific teams; wherever they play we will approach them. We have identified players, but cannot reveal names. It is only in Botswana where it is regarded a taboo to approach a player who is a free agent,” he said.
