BDP congress boosts small-scale entrepreneurs

On Tuesday, The Monitor went around the town and discovered that most of the lodges and hotels in the town were booked to capacity, as confirmed by hotel officials.

The congress brought an economic boost for small-scale entrepreneurs who took advantage of the event as they provided a variety of services to delegates and attendants.Vendors sold airtime, fat cakes, tea and chips at different points around town.

Speaking to The Monitor the chairman of BOMASE region Oabile Moupi said that their intention was to boost small-scale entrepreneurs,

hence their decision to allow them to operate at different places across the town.

“Every small scale retailer was allowed to come and sell their products, we did not any restrictions as we wanted everyone to benefit not only Mmadinare residents,” he said. Moupi also said that Mmadinare branch decided to charge the retailers an amount of P100 as they  provided security.

“Mmadinare branch decided to charge the retailers a nominal fee of P100 because the retailers are provided with security. We wanted to avoid a situation whereby the retailers are harassed and felt that it was our duty to provide them with security. The retailers started selling their products on Thursday, and will be there until the end of the congress on Sunday.
