Teddy bear in arms for civil rights

Typical of dolls or toys, he has the irresistible charm, but also arrogance with a crazy sense of humour that compares to none and serenades everyone.  If you missed Ted (2012) he is back and this time around movie enthusiasts are part of the jury as he has turned the big screen into his courtroom. In Ted 2, he is agitated and fighting for his rights.

In this fascinating film the newly married couple, Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent Ted has to prove he is a person in a court of law.

Ted 2 has maintained shape, with familiar faces from the original film including Seth MacFarlane, the ironic rugged voice behind the cute but foul-mouthed teddy bear, Ted.

Mark Wahlberg, who plays John in the latest film, maintains his role as Ted’s old pal. Ted serenades the audience throughout the movie, dishing out arrogant remarks in a humorous manner.  One interesting scene is when the two buddies, John and Ted, visit a fertility clinic where John is supposed to help Ted.

Since Ted does not have reproductive functions John donated his sperm for his buddy and his wife.

The plan goes horribly wrong, when Ted starts acting crazy, leaving his friend smeared with lots of stored semen.   As if that was not enough the naughty teddy bear then mocks the doctor asking rude yet funny questions like “So how did you get into this line of work or do you just love cum?”

The teddy bear looks lively with exaggerated human features. Ted 2 has some hidden, yet meaningful messages.

Most people are unaware of this, but animation films tend to display honesty better than other film genres. One scene, which shows courage and honesty is when life throws lemons at Ted, and everything is crumbling down on him, including him loosing his case in court.  The misfit teddy bear sticks to his identity.

“It doesn’t matter what the world thinks of me. I know who I am,” Ted proudly states, showing the audience that even during the toughest time you have to remain true to yourself, and not change because of the situation.

Morgan Freeman is also in the mix with appearances that add more motivational value.

“Anyone who can inspire love in another human is a human,” words from Freeman in support of Ted.  The movie is vibrant and fun because it is an urban type of film. The movie takes place in a metropolis, and concentrates on city lifestyle.  The type of music played in the movie makes the film bubbly and witty.  Ted takes viewers on a drive singing a classic Hip Hop tune by Nelly titled Ride.

Like most comedies it also thrives on irony as a catalyst for its humour.

The Game City audience was very much enthralled to see Ted giving his lawyer a weird condition that he will only hire her to represent him, if she smoked weed like him and John. It seems Ted 2 is feeling the cold at the box office. The movie premiered last weekend generating grand opening sales of $33 million dollars far less than its $54 million dollar mark achieved by its predecessor.

Even on the chart the arrogant Teddy bear could not convince the Dinosaurs to step down.  This week’s Box Office chart:

1. Jurassic World 2. Inside Out 3. Ted 2 4. Max (2015) 5. Spy

Though its reception figures are average, this sequel does turn it up and will blow you away at the cinema. It is very much worth every thebe spent on your ticket fee.  In my view the movie rates an 8 out of 10.
