The ladies’ team caretaker coach, Romeo Tshelametsi, described the recent signings as a great edition and will increase the depth of the team. He also said the team has appointed a full time coach for the ladies team.“We have brought in Teto Marope, Oreeditse Baratang and Kgakgamalo Katukuii from Carats in Orapa.
“We have identified these girls while they were playing for Letlhakane Senior School. They are very good players and I have no doubt they will complement our squad. They will certainly improve our play and they will also give us depth. “Last week we appointed former Vikings player/coach Pako Maforaga as a fulltime women’s coach. It’s a move that will fully equip the girls and also allow me time to concentrate fully on my game,” he said.
Tshelametsi said their preparations have continued since their success in the eliminators held in Palapye.
He said his team has always sailed through the eliminators only to suffer a setback in the tournament, but this year they will not rest in their laurels. “Our girls are really looking forward to putting up a show at this year’s competition as they are working tirelessly hard.
“They have indicated to the management that they are tired of underperforming in the qualifiers and losing in the finals of the competition. “Our sponsor, Botswana Railways and the teams’ management have also complemented the girls efforts by housing them in Gaborone where their training camp has been continuing since the eliminators. They stay together and are working everyday to improving their game. Unfortunately, though we have managed only to keep the girls who were in tertiary schools, others are not present due to work commitments outside Gaborone,” he said.
However, Tshelametsi said they are making sure that those absent from camp are continuing with their training at their respective places with other teams.
He said they are expecting all the players to converge at the training camp in two weeks time.
“We have agreed with all our unavailable players to report to the training camp on July10 as we make our final preparations. “We are very optimistic that with our efforts we will do well this year. Our girls are equally capable and our focus is on the trophy,” Tshelametsi said.
