So far the BMD constitution advocates for 30 percent, but the party is not abiding by its commitment.

Yesterday, the BMDYL president Phenyo Segokgo told the media that their call is motivated by the fact that they value the contribution of women in the party. “We need women’s voice in all committees and even in issues of policy making. Even if the party does not agree to 50% representation, but it should agree on the percentage that would be binding,” Segokgo said.  He said their party had gone through turbulent times and through periods of successes in its journey.  “We have observed that we need to strengthen our mobilisation drive to have the formative allure.

We have observed gaps in the fundraising processes, administrative lapses which, as a movement that wants to stay relevant, we need adequately address these challenges,” he said. Segokgo said his committee is concerned about some elements of indiscipline in their party especially done by some youth on social media.  “We do not condone such elements of indiscipline. At our committee on Saturday, we took a resolution to look on how we are going to address these issues going forward.

Our committee will form a disciplinary committee in order to address on youth level,” he said.

He said party members should channel their grievances through party structures if they have problems.
