Jamataka inaugurates IT Chief

The ceremony, held at the village Kgotla attracted hundreds of villagers as well as dikgosi from neighbouring villages.
The youthful Kgosi holds a Diploma in Information Technology (IT) from Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS).
Galebonwe (25) was appointed Kgosi last August after inheriting the crown from his father Goitseone Gaebolae who was disadvantaged by his illiteracy.
Officially crowning the young Kgosi, the Tonota Subordinate Tribal Authority Ramosinyi Radipitse advised Galebonwe to start thinking in a different way, saying gone are the days of his youthful times.
Radipitse said that despite his young age, Galebonwe now holds a chief’s status and that has to be reflected in his relations with the people he is leading.
He challenged the Kgosi to start behaving in a different manner as compared to his age mates and respect the title of bogosi and to stop having friendships with his peers, saying he should associate with elders for guidance.
“In order to be a good leader you should lead by example.
You are now a man therefore you should look for a woman to marry and elevate your status as a Kgosi. The people should always know where to find you, “ said Radipitse. He warned Galebonwe to be cautious of hordes of people from Francistown, which is only a few kilometers southeastwards, who would soon invade Jamataka hunting for residential plots. “The population increases but the land does not increase. Therefore you should know that the young generation of this village should be able to have plots here.
“I do not want to see the children of this village struggling like those of Tonota who do not have plots as there is no longer available land,” said Radipitse.
Giving the keynote address, the Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament (MP) for Shashe West constituency Fidelis Molao applauded Jamataka residents for appointing a young and educated Kgosi saying it will help speed up the village developments that are still lagging behind as he brings in new ideas.
Molao challenged Galebonwe to be neutral when addressing issues as the village Kgosi saying it will help him lead his people accordingly without favouritism.
He called on residents to respect their Kgosi despite his young age.
Molao said that it took courage, commitment for Galebonwe to have agreed to take the position whilst his age-mates are working in towns and cities. Giving a word of encouragement Natale village Kgosi, Shepherd Pelaelo, 36, who has been in the seat for 13 years encouraged Galebonwe to have proper communication between him and his people.
“People will give you advice but that does not mean you will always do as they suggest, but rather as their Kgosi you should know what is good for your village and its people,” advised Pelaelo.
