Well done Township Rollers, well done Jagdish

That is a historic feat. It has never been imagined before that a local football club can announce this huge figure.

The announcement, made at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Selebi-Phikwe, comes  shortly after the revelation that the team earned over a million from gate takings alone.

Kudos to the managing director of Township Rollers, Jagdish Shah who has been a good example of how a club’s fortune can be transformed if it is in good hands.

Indeed the club has never experienced this turn of fortunes until the coming on board of Jagdish. He is simply giving Township Rollers the same golden Jagdish touch that  transformed CA Sales Distributors, a merchandising company that he started, into a multi-million Pula corporation.

Jagdish has proved that when he  decided to get into the club ownership, his was not to milk the club or to make money, but to help  the club realise its potential as a money spinner.

Football is a very expensive sport where the best players command hefty maintenance that make even P6 million look like a drop in the ocean.

While we celebrate with the Blues and their owner, this should be seen as but the beginning of a laborious  development process as the club must come up with innovative ways to erect its training facility,  and other investments that tally with the  club of its stature.

We hope that in time, we shall see those dreams becoming tangible as Township Rollers position itself as the exporter of  talent to Europe.

Elsewhere,  the Police report that this year’s Toyota 1000 Desert Race has been the most heavily attended spectacle.

This is encouraging considering that the winter bite was at its harshest in the weekend of the annual sporting event. We salute those  multitudes who defied the cold spell to make the  race the no1 event  that it has always been in the Botswana calendar.
