Gaborone decries ministers disrespect

Gaborone was speaking during the closing ceremony of the third sitting of Ntlo ya Dikgosi on Friday.

He told the assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Tshireletso Botlogile, he is unhappy that some ministers do not take Ntlo ya Dikgosi seriously when it requests them to appear before the House. “I am concerned that some ministers do not come and answers questions that are asked by Dikgosi.  This shows that ministers do not value this house,” said Gaborone.

He said this tendency at times forces the house to keep on extending their sittings.

“I do not know what can be done, but I want you to tell them our concerns. It should be known that Bogosi has played an immense contribution to this country and no one can take that away from Bogosi,” he said.

Gaborone said Bogosi would remain relevant because different tribes respect and value the institution. He asked members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi to protect Bogosi at all times and to ensure that it remains relevant.

“Let us protect Bogosi for it to be relevant and strong. We should not run away because some people do not take Bogosi seriously and that we are not given enough resources to perform our job,” he said.

He added that he is happy with the debates and contributions of Dikgosi.

Meanwhile, Tshireletso said she would talk to her colleagues who did not appear before the House to answer questions posed by the chiefs.

“I will take this matter up with cabinet so that all ministers know your concerns. I believe that in your next session, ministers will attend,” Tshireletso said.
