He said the shortage was as a result of mis-communication between the marshals. He explained that one of the team leaders was given the navigations equipment, but failed to communicate and deliver to other drivers. He said the situation was explained to the drivers and the committee took a decision to give them free registration to next year’s event.

Meanwhile, Modisaeman said the race went well despite the few hiccups. He added that local drivers can only be successful if they have the determination to work hard.

He said he had expected Keith du Toit, Mogrey Mabile and Thulani Dube to perform better than last year, which unfortunately did not happen. He pointed out that there was a tremendous growth of the event as compared to last year.

BMS has a five year contract to host the event in the mining town.

Modisaeman said BMS has conducted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) that is yet to be presented to the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism.

He said the event does not only benefit drivers, but the local communities. ‘BMS is affiliated to international federations such as Formula One and we intend to use our corporation to develop the sport here. That includes training of marshals. We cannot have a race without them,’ he said

Modisaeman said the aim is for BMS to have community social responsibility and come up with projects that will grow the local community.

He said the event should not be just a one-time event that everyone  quickly forgets about.
