BDP councillor suspended for misconduct

The suspension, which was effected last Friday, paved way for internal investigations to begin.
BDP secretary general Mpho Balopi confirmed the suspension.
“Like any other organisation, BDP has a way of running its political affairs.
“Our party members know the party’s code of conduct and are aware of the consequences if one is not abiding by the rules.
“The councillor in question has been suspended pending disciplinary hearing, which gives him the right to respond. I cannot any more divulge information until the matter has been deliberated. Doing so would be jeopardising investigation that is being done by the party,” he said.
Motaosane refused to comment on the matter, only saying, “I will only comment after disciplinary hearing committee had made its ruling on the issue.” According to a source, the councillor was suspended after he exchanged bitter words with the area MP Tshenolo Mabeo, over the nomination of delegates. It is alleged that the councillor and Mabeo did not support the same candidates contesting for party positions.
“The councillor accused some members of the branch committee and the area MP for nominating only delegates that are of their team. This did not go well with the councillor. He was later heard exchanging bitter words with the MP,” said the source.
The mole added that the issue didn’t go down well with some party members who felt that the councillor had disrespected their MP by shouting at him in front of them, adding that they had lodged a formal complaint, which had led to the suspension. Mabeo is said to be in support of the vice president Mokgweetsi Masisi and his team, while the councillor is said to be rallying behind Tebelelo Seretse.Mabeo, however, claimed to be in the dark over the councillor’s suspension.
“I can confirm that the suspended councillor was rude to me in one of the meetings attended by area councillors, party branch members, as well as the central committee members, who came to address us on some of the party issues,” he said. Mabeo admitted that he had complained to the party leadership about the councillor’s unbecoming behaviour, but refuted claims that there was favouritism in the lobby list delegates’ selection.
