Captain's knock: Bolofete has quit

The 36-year-old Bolofete said he feels it’s time to leave the sport while he is still energetic.  “I have been playing football at high level for a long time now and I think this is the right time to make way for upcoming players to carry forward.

There are a lot of good, young players and I believe they have the potential to do well,” he said.

Bolofete said he will always have a soft spot for the sport.  “It’s the only game I have actively participated in for my entire life, and I cannot run away from it. I am available to assist anywhere I will be needed regarding the sport. I also did my preliminary coaching recently and who knows may be that will lead to something in future,” he said.

Bolofete said that Botswana has a lot of football players with potential to grow the sport here.

He however said some players are disrespectful and this stalled their progress.

“There is great potential in the players but they lack respect and they have got no vision, they don’t know where their future lies yet there is great room today for being professionals in football,” he said.

He recalled that when he started, allowances were quite low but they never complained.

“Our main focus was to be in the first 11, money came after football. Today its vice-versa, players will not shy from boycotting even when they are under performing, if they could do away with that mentality and accept the reality then we have a whole lot of great players going forward,” he said.

Bolofete who hails from Lecheng, was born in Selibe-Phikwe, and started competitive football in the First Division with Motlakase at the tender age of 16, while he was a Form 3 student at Lotsane Senior School.

He later represented Botswana at all junior teams as well as the senior side.

Bolofete saw successive league sponsors and change of names from the Castle Super League, St Louis League, and Mascom League through to the BeMOBILE Premier League.

The well-travelled Bolofete played for Notwane, Gunners, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Orapa Wanderers, Task FC and Jwaneng Comets, before he ultimately rejoined Motlakase Power Dynamos in 2009.
