MTN Business renovates Camphill ICT lab

The donation was part of MTN’s ‘21 Days of Yello Care’ in which on the 21st day of the chosen period they donate to a certain trust or centre that they have selected. For the last three years the theme has been ‘Education for All’.

Speaking at the event, MTN Business Botswana Finance and Administration Officer, Mthulisi Malinga said they believe revamping Camphill’s computer lab and donating computers would help impart knowledge in ICT. “We normally look at those that lack adequate support who usually rely on the government for development.  Usually we send our team to go around the country and identify them and we evaluate them till the last one,” he said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, Camphill Managing Director, Andreas Groth said the donation would make an impact in the school. He said that it will especially help the students know about ICT, which is important in this modern era.

“Our students have been doing ICT for three years now after the Japan Embassy and the Ministry of Transport and Communications built a computer lab at Motse wa Badiri. We had to travel there to use computers.  This will now change as they will be able to practise here at the convenience of their time,” said Groth.

He added that the donation is important in helping their children interact and learn about modern day technologies, which also provide opportunities for potential businesses.

Camphill Community Trust has under its care about 56 disadvantaged children aged between four years and 14 years.

The village chief, Moreti Tshepho applauded MTN Business Botswana saying the donation will enhance the children’s lives further noting that computer skills are crucial these days.

“This trust has played an important role in changing the culture of hiding disadvantaged children at homes.  They now get education just like any other child and interestingly, some children who have been students here are employed in the corporate world,” he said.

He also applauded Choppies for hiring most of these children as he said it gives the young ones hope to work hard and be independent.
