Silver Grey wins MaqMaqapella 2015

For their feat, beating 20 other acts, the group pocketed P30,000 prize money.

The group also won a recording deal worth P30, 000, to which they will record a song and video promoting MAQ washing powder in Botswana. They will also have usage of Maq products for a year.

From 20 contestants, the competition was narrowed down to the three finalists and they had to go back on stage again to fight for the prize. Silver Grey didn’t waste their chance but they took their performance to another level and stood out from the rest. Perhaps what made them unique is that they posses a unique vibrant African sound.

Maqapella was launched in Botswana earlier this year following its success in South Africa.

Among the judges was one of the well known Botswana’s exports to South Africa, television actor Shona Ferguson. He told the audience that judging and coming up with a winner was difficult.

“It is a hot seat, it is hard to narrow it down to the winner because these contestants are equally talented,” he said.

Also among the judges was local music prodigy Vee who stunned the crowd with a wonderful performance. Clad in a white outfit, Vee delivered a wonderful performance of the song Suffer. Then he set the stage on fire with a performance of his old hit Eita alongside traditional group Mafitlhakgosi.
